The short answer
In Oropos, Kapandriti, Varnavas and Kalamos winters are colder than in the Athens basin, so a prefab pool needs proper winter protection and, often, a heat pump. On plots near pine forest the engineer checks the forest map first.
Cold winters: how we protect the pool
In the higher spots, such as Varnavas and Polydendri, it is not unusual for temperatures to drop below zero in winter. The pool is not emptied, because the water supports the membrane and walls. We lower the level below the inlets, drain exposed pipes and fit a winter cover.
The steps are on the maintenance page.
Heating for a longer season
Because spring comes a little later here, an unheated pool turns pleasant later than in Athens. A correctly sized heat pump, together with a cover, brings the start of the season forward by several weeks.
For holiday homes opened only in summer, heating can wait. For family homes it is almost always worth it. See the guide on climate and season.
Pines, hills and the forest map
Varnavas, Kalamos and Kapandriti have many plots on pine-covered hillsides. The forest map is checked from the start. On sloping plots the pool goes on a level terrace or as a pool on a sloping plot, with a retaining wall on the downhill side.
Oropos and the Euboean coast
In Skala Oropou and along the Euboean coast plots are flatter, the ground usually soil and access easy. Here people often ask for larger family pools and spas with hydromassage for the cool evenings.
