The short answer
On Salamina, Aegina and Agistri a prefab pool solves the islands' biggest problem: transport. Walls, membrane and equipment go on one truck on the ferry, the crew stays on the island and finishes without back-and-forth trips.
Why prefab suits the islands
A concrete pool on an island means many trips with mixer trucks, rebar and formwork, or relying on whatever materials are available locally. A prefab pool arrives almost whole in one trip: walls, braces, pipes, membrane, filter, pump. The concrete needed for the base ring is small.
We have already worked on Salamina and, beyond Attica, on islands such as Limnos. We know how to organise the job so nothing is left half done.
Salamina: next to Piraeus
Salamina is a few minutes by ferry from Perama, so for us it is almost like working in Athens. Plots in Selinia, Kaki Vigla and Aianteio are usually holiday homes with gardens, often with small pines and a sea view.
Aegina and Agistri
For Aegina and Agistri the boat leaves from Piraeus. We organise the job so the crew stays on the island for as many days as needed. On Aegina many plots have pistachio trees and stony ground, so the site visit matters for knowing what we will find.
Water on the islands
Aegina and Salamina now get water from Attica through undersea pipelines, but in some spots pressure is low or there are summer restrictions. For the first fill we often suggest a water truck. More in the water guide.
From our experienceOn an island it pays to keep a small set of spares in the plant room: a pre-filter basket, O-rings and a pressure gauge. It saves a trip for something that costs very little.
